Beatlemania is coming to the Brixton Barnardo’s store with rare and collectable recordings and memorabilia going on sale on Record Store Day.

A window dedicated to the Fab Four is already on display at the Brixton Road shop, with all the items up for grabs on Saturday, April 22 to raise funds for the charity’s work with vulnerable children, young people and families.

Record hunters will be able to snap up vinyl editions of classic albums by the Beatles and the four individual members, from Sgt. Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour to George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass and At The Speed of Sound by Wings.

Shop manager and music fan Russell Lewendon has been collecting Beatles-related material together for months, and the lucky few who get to the store early will also be able to pick up sought-after CDs of unofficial early recordings of the band, plus cover LPs such as Basie’s Beatle Bag by big band legend Count Basie and Beatle Music by The Session Men.

Reconditioned musical instruments and collectable Beatles books and T-shirts will also be on offer on the day, coinciding with the re-release of the band’s legendary double A side single, Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever, in independent music shops around the UK.

Brixton Barnardo’s Manager Russell Lewendon said: “I’m a massive Beatles fan and we had a few bits and pieces come in, so I thought we’d keep it for Record Store Day. A lot of collectors save up for this every year and we’d like them to include us on their tour of local record shops.

“We’re going to have live music in store in the afternoon with covers of Beatles, Kinks and Rolling Stones classics, and I’d encourage anyone who likes music to come down and see what’s going on.”

Barnardo’s supports the UK’s most vulnerable children and young people, including those who are just leaving care or have experienced child sexual exploitation.

Brixton Barnardo’s will be open from 9am to 5.30pm on Saturday, April 22. The store is on the corner of Brixton Road and Stockwell Road, opposite the Brixton Academy.
