BLACK HISTORY MONTH: Win this illustration of ‘the Brixton Nine’

BRIXTON NINE DETAIL by Jon DanielsIt’s that time of year again. A couple of months after the great launch party for the £7m Black Cultural Archives (BCA) centre, the start of October marks the beginning of Black History Month.

To celebrate Black History Month, we’ve teamed up with the BCA, Colourful Radio and artist and designer Jon Daniel to offer readers the chance to win a 70x100cm framed version of this fantastic print – named The Brixton Nine. It features nine mystery black Brixtonites who have had an impact in Lambeth and around the World.

The BCA also has a jam-packed programme events, from neighbourhood walks, exhibition tours and a series of lunchtime talks.

For your chance to win the print:

  1. Simply name all nine of the famous black Brixtonites pictured in the piece.
  2. Fill in the form on page 10 of the October Brixton Bugle newspaper – now available for free at the Black Cultural Archives and at points around Brixton. (also available to print below).
  3. Drop the completed entry form into the box in the BCA cafe, in Windrush Square, wher you can also see the full 70x100cm version of the artwork. Before November 1.
  4. Wait and see if you’re the winner.

Jon Daniel is a Brixton designer and artist with an impressive heritage. In 2012 he designed a range of artowrk for the side of the Ritzy Cinema to mark Jamaica 50 celebrations. He was also responsible for the iconic Jamaica-inspired Brixton flags that lined Brixton Road during the Olympics.

To enter the competition, fill in the form below and name the nine mystery characters in the poster above and found in the Brixton Bugle. Just pop the entry form into the BCA cafe – where you can find the Brixton Nine poster displayed for all to see. Winners announced after November 1.
