National homelessness charity Crisis is organising a heat exchange at Brockwell Lido on Saturday 10 December – you get cold in the pool and a homeless person stays warm at Christmas.

Crisis’ annual Mid-Winter Swim at noon will see hundreds of fancy dress clad swimmers taking part in a solo splash or a team relay.

The charity says that more than 8,000 people slept rough in London during 2015/16 – a 6% rise on the previous 12 months and more than double the figure of 3,673 in 2009/10.

The £22.32 registration fee will contribute to the cost of reserving a place for a homeless person at Crisis at Christmas and supporting Crisis’ year-round services for homeless people.

The Brockwell Lido swim is not the only south London event for Crisis. On Saturday 28 January its swim at Tooting Lido, starting at 9am, will be part of the opening ceremony for the UK Cold Water Swimming Championships. Registration for this swim is £15.

All participants will receive a Crisis swimming cap for the occasion and a warming drink after their swim.
