Brix-tongue poet Mr Gee to judge national writing competition

Mr Gee spoken word poet

Spoken word poet Mr Gee who hosted Brixton’s performance poetry club Brix-tongue, is joining a panel of expert judges for “Voices”, a national writing competition for children in care and young care leavers.

Mr Gee was resident poet on Russel Brand’s former Radio 2 show. He presents the radio 4 series, Poetic Justice, which encourages inmates to write poems that give an insight into prison life.

Coram Voice, the charity that supports children and young people in and around the care system, launched the competition as a platform for young people to express their creative talents.

Me Gee said: “Expression through creative writing is such a powerful and important thing, especially for young people in care and allows them to express themselves in new and creative ways I’m excited to see what talent is unearthed!”

The competition is in age categories: 11 – 14 years; 15-18 years; and, care leavers.  This year’s theme is “Who or what makes you proud”.  Entries can be in any written style including poems, short stories or newspaper articles, with a 500 word limit.

Entry is on online at  coramvoice.org.uk/voices18 until 8 February 2018, and winners will be announced by the judges at an awards ceremony in London on 9 April.
