Brixton Pub Review – The Beehive

BeehiveThe Space

With hotel carpet, sticky tables and a food menu the length of your leg, this place poses as your average Wetherspoon gaff. You might expect little, but to bypass that familiar Spoons smell would be a big oversight.

The Punters

Packed with eclectic regulars from open till close, the atmosphere is never less then buzzing. Don’t let the absence of free tables put you off – the more the merrier here.

The Booze

Even if the selection is somewhat uninspiring, you can’t sniff when you’re attempting a round with a tenner and the barman returns a fistful of change.

The Grub

For a slap-up meal to soothe post-pint hunger pangs, look no further. With such a choice of eateries close by, however, you might want to save your remaining dosh for a dish with a bit more wow factor.

The Damage

You’d spend as much in a night at The Beehive as you would in an hour elsewhere in the capital. Around £3 for pints, double up your £2.25 spirit ‘n’ mixer for an extra pound or splash out on a pint of cocktail for £3.99. Quids in!

beehiveAn Interesting Fact

Did you know there are 1417 calories in a portion of Wetherspoon’s nachos? Well you do now thanks to their handy menu calorimeter. (The side order of guilt comes for free.)

The Highlights

The best thing about this pub is its punters.

What’s a bit rubbish?

If you’re looking for a quiet one-to-one pint you might be better off at one of Brixton’s more exclusive watering holes.

What else they got in the bag?

There’s no denying competition is tough in these parts, yet friendly faces and howdyados give real character to this old joint.

To sum it up..

Rough around the edges, but if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

We also met with Neil Warshow, the pub’s licensee, a while back – read the interview here.

  1. Full of tramps usually, outside. Four beggars came up on one night out…. never been back since.
