Candidates at Lambeth Town Hall have spoken of a good natured by-election campaign.

Speaking to Brixton Blog as ballot papers are counted in Room Eight, council hopefuls said they enjoyed campaigning, but most conceded it was likely to be another Labour win.

Green Party candidate Andrew Child said: “It’s my first time standing, and people appreciate I’m a local person.

“I am hoping for second place, and if we can keep Labour to 50 per cent I’ll be happy. The Labour campaign has been phenomenal. But we’re looking for a win in 2014.”

Martin Tiedemann, Labour, said: “It’s been an amazing campaign, we had 150 volunteers out on the doorstep last weekend and the same again today, and we’ve been down every street three or four times. There’s been a lot of anger against the national government too.”

Asked if he was confident of success he said: “I haven’t looked at any of the ballot papers yet, but there’s a lot of support out there.”
