Today the Canterbury Arms closes it doors for good.

The pub on Canterbury Crescent will be demolished and become a nine-story private residential block.

Councillors approved the plans for Brixton’s oldest pub in March 2014.

On the pub’s Facebook page Brian Fitzgerald, who has ran the pub for more than 20 years, said: “it is with extreme sorrow that we say goodbye to the pub that became home for me and my family over a very long period.”
