Public consultations for a new University Technical College (UTC) in Brixton will come to an end on February 13.
The new facility will open at the Lambeth College campus on Brixton Hill.
The site was sold by the college to the DfE for around £18 million in 2013.Â
Free school Trinity Academy opened on the campus in September 2014. The UTC is planned to open in September 2016. Lambeth College will continue to operate on a reduced site.
The local community has been invited to share their views on the engineering UTC.
The school will apparently “prepare young people in Brixton and neighbouring boroughs for careers in engineering in the building and health sectors, from designing sustainable buildings to developing more effective medical engineering devices such as MRI scanners.”
A UTC is a type of secondary school for 14–19 year olds led by a university sponsor. In Brixton’s case: London South Bank University, along with employer sponsors Skanska, Purico, Guy’s & St Thomas’ and King’s College NHS Foundation Trust.
Rao Bhamidimarri, Chair of the South Bank Engineering UTC Trust, said: “I hope that parents and members of the local community will take the time to look at our consultation materials and share their views on the proposals. Educating our young people in engineering in the health and building sectors will provide vast career opportunities for them and will benefit the local community.
