DIY COCKTAIL: The Federation Espresso Martini

Written by on 16 September, 2018 in Drinks, Recipes - No comments

Hardly surprising that specialty coffee experts Federation Coffee make a banging Espresso Martini.

Scott “Fed” Martin explains…

“Alongside our roasters, Curve, we developed an espresso blend that would stand up to the bite of adding booze. So we eventually settled on a (60%/40%) blend of a really creamy Guatemalan coffee and a light and floral Ethiopian coffee to create a smooth, naturally sweet and crisp espresso. We chose Smirnoff Red, as across all of our blind tastings, it came out tops by far as the most balanced and it lets the espresso do the talking.”

40g light-roasted espresso, from a quality roaster
40ml Smirnoff Red vodka
20ml demerara sugar syrup (it’s easy to make your own)
100g ice. (we use filtered water for ice, or the hardness of London tap water will impart a chalky taste to the drink)

Combine your ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake for 10 seconds
Fine strain into your glass of choice (we use a wine glass so you really have to get your nose in there when drinking)
Garnish with a pinch of finely ground coffee for an extra nasal hit of espresso
