Rodney P hosts wrap up party of Black Sound at BCA

For one day UK’s music pioneers and artists literally take-over the Black Cultural Archives to celebrate the final day of the Black Sound exhibition. Black Sound tells the story of 100 years of the greatest pioneers and pays homage to those who created the Black Sound legacy here in Britain.

Presented by the godfather of UK hip hop Rodney P, the BCA wraps up the final day of the exhibition with a national call-out to encourage artists, producers, and promoters to archive their own musical legacies.

Enjoy a family day, explore the exhibition, live music, performances, readings and debates. Bring down your archives, meet our expert team and preserve your story, history and legacy.

DJ Snuff will play a compilation of classics to the hottest new music in the courtyard. Special live performances from the godfather of UK Hip Hop Rodney P, artist and activist Logic, rapper Ty and more on the day. The legendary Sir Lloyd Coxsone will play the finale set bringing the bass lines and foundations of reggae music home to the archives.

The debate, hosted by Rodney P, will look at how artists continue to lead the conversation in music making, and the importance of self-documenting and preserving archives to tell their own story, in their own words and images. Rodney P will be joined by Ty, rapper, producer and DJ Swiss, broadcaster Jasmine Dotiwala, assistant commissioner for BBC2 and BBC4 Jay Davidson, actor Clint Dyer, creative director Jamie D’Cruz and BCA expert archivist.

Blingwear will run a graffiti mural art workshops for children ages from 4yrs upwards.

FREE courtyard performances and archival advice. Debates are £7/£5 conc. Children are free accompanied by an adult
