Free meals for Brixton kids over summer holidays

(sponsored Blogpost)

In a special summer promotion Brixton’s Turtle Bay restaurant on Brixton Road is offering cash strapped parents a Caribbean alternative to McDonald’s or KFC. For every adult ordering a main meal, two kids meals come free. The offer lasts until 10th September and is available from 11:30am until 10pm*.

The Little Turtles” kids’ menu includes burgers, flatbreads and grilled chicken breast with Caribbean slaw. All dishes are served with a choice of fries, sweet potato mash, rice ‘n’ peas or salad.

The “Little Turtles” menu place mat also doubles up as a colouring in sheet, so kids can (hopefully) amuse themselves while the grownups take some time out.

Here’s what Turtle Bay say about themselves;

We are all about celebrating the lively, colourful, and, above all, delicious experiences that the Caribbean has to offer – from rich and explosive flavours to laid back ‘liming’, relaxing and enjoying food, drink, conversation and laughter with family, friends and loved ones.

Food is at the heart of what we do– just as it’s central to Caribbean culture. An eclectic cuisine that is influenced by a rich tapestry of ethnicities, the food at Turtle Bay offers a vast choice of bold flavours and rustic dishes, all inspired by the laid back, social outlook of the Caribbean.

You can find Turtle Bay Brixton at 382-384 Brixton Rd, Brixton SW9 7AW

    Thank you for your comment Annabel. The Blog and the Bugle have given a great deal of coverage to issues of poverty in Brixton and to the tireless efforts of charities working to help.
    But to be fair, the headline is literally true, and the terms of the free meal clearly stated in the first paragraph – as is the fact that the post is paid for by Turtle Bay.
    We are always looking for contributors to the Blog and Bugle so please let us know if you would like to write more extensively on this or any other subject.
    Best wishes

    I’m sorry, but this is an extremely misleading headline. Many families – and, given the heavy calls on the local food bank – find it an enormous struggle to feed their families during the school holidays (it is easier in term time when the children get at least one meal a day at school), and will have opened this article, only to find that to get a free meal for their children, they would have to buy, and pay for, an expensive restaurant meal for themselves, something that is probably beyond their wildest dreams of affordability.

    I really think you should change the headline to reflect that the “free” meals are very far from free, and would not be affordable to those who most need them.
