‘Great news’ for Brixton school

Stockwell Primary School, on the Stockwell Road in Brixton, has been rated “good” by the education inspectorate Ofsted. The school, which is part of a federation with Jessop Primary School in Herne Hill, said there had been “rapid progress under the exceptional leadership of Lilian Umekwe, a National Leader for Education and Executive Headteacher of the Jessop Stockwell Federation.

The federation sys its aim is to aims to “drive educational excellence in the heart of Lambeth, ensuring all pupils are provided with an academically-rich, inspiring and creative learning experience”.

Stockwell Primary’s latest key stage 2 (pupils from seven to 11) results exceeded both local and national averages.

An “outstanding” 98% of year 6 pupils achieved level 4 in reading and 95% of pupils achieved at least level 4 in writing.

Maths performances were also celebrated, with 95% of pupils achieving at least level 4 and an exceptional 8% of students pupils level 6.

Ofsted said a strong leadership team and the school’s “single-minded drive for improvement” had made the school’s aspiration of “achieving excellence together” possible. Pupils said they strove to reach their potential because of the motivation and support from teachers.

“This is great news for the school and for the federation,” said a spokesperson. “More families than ever are choosing the Jessop Stockwell Federation.”
