One of Brixton’s great club nights and its longest running – How Does It Feel to be Loved, which ran at the now-demolished Canterbury Arms for 12 years – is to make a one-off return.

Brixton-born host Ian Watson says the event, at the revamped Courtesan on Atlantic Road, will be an emotional night and the first for HDIF in Brixton since the Canterbury was demolished.

“We now run monthly at The Phoenix in central London, but we couldn’t resist heading south to SW9 for this one-off night.

“We’re delighted to announce that HDIF is returning to Brixton for a one-off night on Saturday 7 October.

“We originally ran in Brixton for 12 wonderful years at the Canterbury Arms – from 2003 until the pub closed in 2015 – by which point we were Brixton’s longest running indie club.”

The Courtesan – a dim sum restaurant by day – hosts cabaret, live music, and club nights after dark.

Its main, upstairs, room has a wooden dancefloor and a capacity of 120. There is also a smaller basement bar.

“I’ve spent the past few years looking at lots of possible spaces for HDIF in south London,” said Ian. “I was instantly struck by the character and atmosphere of The Courtesan. I’m looking forward to putting that wooden dancefloor to the test.

“If we all feel that the space works well, then we may add additional dates in the future.”

Guest DJs for this night are David and Franic of The Wave Pictures.
