Local MP Helen Hayes will be helping out at Brixton Tesco tomorrow to help with this summer’s national food collection, organised in partnership with The Trussell Trust and Fareshare.

The Neighbourhood Food Collection is aiming to provide at least four million meals to people in need this summer.  They still need volunteers, so go to http://norwoodbrixton.foodbank.org.uk/ if you’re able to help out this weekend.

Volunteers will be collecting food at Brixton and Streatham between Thursday July 2 and Saturday July 4. Helen Hayes MP is joining them on Friday at 2pm.

Helen Hayes said: “It is fantastic to see local people coming together to tackle the issue of food poverty. I encourage everybody to donate a little time, food or money to help these hard working local charities when the big collection starts.”

Jon Taylor, Brixton Foodbank Manager said: “We are very grateful for the support that the Neighbourhood Food Collection provides. Supermarket collections are one of the main ways that foodbanks are stocked and Tesco top this up with a donation which goes to our running costs. We appreciate the involvement of Helen Hayes in helping ensure the local effort is as successful as possible.”
