The Lady Topcats finish on a perfect 11-0 record to be crowned the South East Division 2 champions meaning they secure home court for the playoffs. The season so far has been very successful for the Topcats who also add National Trophy Finals runners-up to their name, hoping to pick up the playoff winners which is being hosted on Saturday April 12 at Leeds Metropolitan University.

The Lady Topcats will have to go through Team Solent Suns in the first round taking place this Sunday March 23 at Brixton Recreation Centre, tip-off 2pm. If they are successful, they will then meet the winner of Reading Rockets and Loughborough Riders at home in the semi-final hoping to book another place in a National final.

Head Coach Steve Vear reflects on the season so far and the journey it has taken to get into a commanding place: “Without trying to sound too arrogant, we all expected this. The players I had been able to recruit all joined on the basis that we would get promoted and run through the league. We’ve had a bumpy journey at times but we needed that adversity to persevere. Adding both Taylor Hilton and Charlene St Marthe before the Christmas deadline has definitely given us more punching power to the core set of players we started with. I’m confident if we continue to play how we have been then becoming national champions is well in our sight”.

Rachel James, captain, also echoed Coach Vear’s optimism heading into the playoffs: “We have a team full of talent and it did take some time for us to gel together but we are there now and want to push for promotion and win the playoffs. I’m confident, as is the rest of the team that we can achieve this”.

The Lady Topcats have a great case already to be promoted to the top flight Division One and adding the Playoff Champions will only help this.

Make sure to get down to Brixton Recreation Centre this coming Sunday 23 March at 2pm where they look to advanced to the semi-finals.

Thanks to the Brixton Topcats for this report.
