Lambeth trade unions have organised a protest on February 25 against the council’s £90 million cuts.

The protest is will take place at 6pm outside the Town Hall.

It is a joint campaign between the trade unions Unison, GMB, Unite, Unite Community and National Union of Teachers (NUT).

They say that they are protesting against Lambeth Council making cuts of £90 million over the next three years.

They say the “Tories have slashed spending for local authorities”.

Sara Tomlinson from Lambeth NUT said: “We have already lost a quarter of the staff in the borough, including a large experienced team that used to support the most vulnerable children in our schools.

“A further cut of such a huge amount will see a widening of the gap between the rich and poor in our already hard-hit borough, as those wealthy enough to move into the borough live one kind of life and the rest are left with poor quality, high cost housing, no support for those in need.

“We hope a large demonstration will show the strength of feeling of the local community and pressure councillors to go back to the government and say that they cannot and will not cut the services and jobs of the people they represent.”
