You might have found a polling card in your letterbox in the last couple of weeks. But what’s it all about?
There’s a by-election for a new councillor in the Tulse Hill ward – and the Brixton Blog wants to make sure your views are heard.
So we’re organising a hustings event where residents can grill the candidates about what they would do for the area.
The hustings will be held at St Matthews Tenants Hall, 10 St Matthews Rd, SW2 1NH at 7.30pm on Tuesday 23rd July.
You will be able to ask the candidates what they would do about the issues that matter to you – whether it’s affordable housing, the new Sainsbury’s supermarket on Brixton Water Lane, local schools, licensing issues around the Hootananny and other venues, community safety or anything else that affects the local area.
You can also send questions in advance of the event to kaye[dot]wiggins[at] gmail[dot]com.
It follows a lively evening of debate at the Brixton Blog’s hustings for the Brixton Hill by-election in January – read more here.
The full list of candidates is:
Amna Ahmad, Liberal Democrat
Mary Atkins, Labour
Bernard Newton Atwell, Green Party
Timothy Briggs, Conservative
Adam Buick, Socialist Party
Elizabeth Jones, UKIP
Steve Nally, Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition
Valentine Walker, Independent
Anyone with an interest in Brixton is welcome, whether or not you live or work in the Tulse Hill ward. But if you want to see whether you live in the ward, check the map below.
