Queen to visit Brixton riding club

Ros Spearing MBE ebonyThe Queen and the Duchess of Cornwall are to visit an inspirational riding club based in the heart of Brixton.

The royal pair will come to Ebony Horse Club, in Millbrook Road, on October 29, it has been announced.

The duchess has been the president of the horse club since 2009, and in 2011 she opened the club’s new headquarters in Millbrook Road. Both she and the Queen are keen riders.

Club director Ros Spearing told Brixton Blog today that she was “very pleased” about the impending visit, which falls during half term.

The duchess has previously said about the riding club: “I am hugely impressed by its work with young people in one of London’s most deprived inner city areas.

“Learning to ride takes a lot of courage, patience and determination and it allows children to discover inner strengths they never knew they had and, even more importantly, improves their self-confidence.”
