South Bank Engineering University Technical College, a new specialist college for 14-to-19-year-olds that opens in Brixton next year, came to Windrush Square with some robots on Saturday to see and be seen.

Principal designate Dan Cundy, who was expecting to be talking to parents and potential students, got an unexpected bonus when, 90 minutes into the two-hour event, he had been approached by four maths teachers, who, in London are a rare and precious commodity.

The new university technical college (UTC)  is sponsored by London South Bank University and will have close links with employer partners including King’s College Hospital. It will offer qualifications leading to university, apprenticeships and careers in engineering. It will be based in part of the old Lambeth College site.

Prospective students living within three kilometres of the new college will benefit from a degree of priority for admission if places are over-subscribed.

Dan says: “We will have world-class facilities in our new buildings, and will offer so much more than traditional schools, including robotics and 3D printing along with cutting-edge digital tools and computer-aided design technology.”

There will be a limited intake in 2016. You can find out more at the college website or download a prospectus.
