During the visit they met veterans from the West Indian Association of Service Personnel, staff, volunteers, students and community groups.

The Prince and Duchess were shown extracts from the BCA‘s recent and upcoming exhibitions including Pilots of the Caribbean which tells the story of the African-Caribbean personnel, commemorating and celebrating their contribution to the defence of Britain. The exhibition highlights the RAF’s success in embracing integration and how the diverse nature of modern Britain owes much to those black service men and women.

The Bigkid Foundation works with young people in Lambeth who struggle with the pressures of gang culture and deprivation.

The visit follows the announcement of a memorial to Black Commonwealth servicemen and women which will be unveiled in a high-profile ceremony in Brixton on Windrush Day 22 June 2017. More here.

Later the Duchess, President of Ebony Horse Club, made an official visit to the community riding centre in Brixton, to meet the young urban riders, families and supporters marking the 21st anniversary since the charity began.
