Think South London is devoid of art? Well, you’re very wrong. The South London Art Map was launched last week and it’s brilliant.
It focuses on three main areas where there are clusters of art galleries – Bankside, Peckham and Deptford. The rest of south London isn’t left unnoticed though. Several Brixton galleries are listed, including Photofusion, Red Gate Gallery and Whirled Art in Loughborough Junction.
There are many independent galleries to be discovered. I attended the launch at the Poppy Sebire Gallery, in a beautiful vaulted Victorian church hall in Southwark.
The South London Art Map team run tours and on the last Friday of every month, the galleries extend their opening hours for late night opening from 6.30-8.30pm.
