Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct, which already owns a large chunk of central Brixton between Pope’s Road and Valentia Place adjacent to the market, is, according to Estates Gazette, the frontrunner to buy Brixton Market.

It has been for sale since the beginning of October. The current owner is London & Associated properties.

Sports Direct paid nearly £12 million for the Pope’s Road site in July this year,

A community bid to raise the money to buy the market was launched in November.

Seems the community is always being squeezed out by corporate bidders out for profit at the expense of what local people want, need and would support. All the character of a place goes when these outsiders take over. Fight back.
