Young entrepreneurs gain £1000 boost from Amazon

Hatch young entrepreneurs

Hatch Enterprise, a local charity that helps young entrepreneurs develop business ideas, has received a £1,000 donation from Amazon UK’s community support programme.
Hatch works with young entrepreneurs in Lambeth and Southwark to help them create and launch businesses and social ventures in the local community. The charity will use the donation to fund three social club events locally, aimed at encouraging young people to embrace entrepreneurship.

Amazon employees plan to volunteer at the social clubs organised by Hatch. Karen Pepper, UK head of Amazon Pay, who will lead the team said: “Empowering entrepreneurs is at the heart of everything we do at Amazon and we jumped at the chance to support Hatch with this donation. We’re passionate about helping young people develop their future careers and the programme of events run by the team at Hatch gives young people the perfect opportunity to embrace their entrepreneurial side while also helping the local community.”

Dirk Bischof, chief executive at Hatch Enterprise said: “The donation from Amazon will enable us to run a number of social clubs, offering young entrepreneurs from Lambeth and Southwark an opportunity to find their entrepreneurial spark and create a business they are passionate about. On behalf of the team from Hatch Enterprises and all the young entrepreneurs we support, we’d like to say thank you to Karen and her team from Amazon for their support.”

This programme is part of Hatch’s Youth Enterprise Incubator, which helps local young entrepreneurs harness their business ideas. Some of the young entrepreneurs come from disadvantaged backgrounds and Hatch aims to inspire them to launch their own company while providing funds for their fledgling businesses.

In November 2016, the Amazon Pay team volunteered with the Brixton Soup Kitchen, a Hatch Alumni and social enterprise. Team members collected warm clothing and blankets to donate for the winter months.
The Amazon in the Community programme supports communities in and around where it operates in the UK. The programme focuses on helping children reach their potential in the digital world by creating a positive environment for children, developing essential skills in literacy and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and empowering young people into the right career.
