Brixton Pub Review – Lounge

6The Space

If feels more an eatery than a pub. A laid back, airy feel, with round tables, and large windows across the front – perfect for people watching. There’s always work by local artists and a suitably mellow soundtrack: dub, soul and ambient.

The Punters

Locals. Mainly young professionals from the not-too-painfully-hip end of the spectrum.

The Booze

Good selection of beers, wines, spirits and cocktails –cold and warm (including hot toddies!) Plenty of soft options for non-drinkers – freshly made smoothies, juices and organic Italian coffee.

The Grub

Unfussy international fare at any hour of the day – see off a hangover with a veggie fry-up, try a homebaked carrot cake and a cuppa, or an evening jerk chicken burger with fried plantain and guacamole. Yum.

2The Damage

A pint of lager will set you back £4.20. Main courses average £8-9 though on Tuesday nights you can get a burger and a drink for a tenner. (Also, it’s worth noting that booking with a Tastecard gives you a two-for-one discount on meals.)

An Interesting Fact

Lounge’s owner is actor Maynard Eziyashi. As well a role in Ace Venture: When Nature Calls, he starred alongside Pierce Brosnan in the film Mister Johnson (a role that won Eziashi a Best Actor award at the Berlinale International Film Festival in 1991).

The Highlights

The table service – smiley and attentive.

4What’s a bit rubbish?

The cafe-style décor and lighting mean that even after dark it doesn’t quite have the atmosphere of an evening joint. Plus it closes at 5pm on a Sunday and Monday.

What else they got in the bag?

Quiz nights, live music and regularly changing art exhibitions.

To sum it up…

An unpretentious spot to catch up with a mate for a mid-week natter.
