VACANCY: News editor for Brixton Blog

Are you a news hound who wants to work in an exciting patch? Want to be in charge of your own stories? Want to help build Brixton’s very own local newspaper?

The Brixton Blog is looking for a news editor to work 2-3 days a week, at a competitive rate, writing news stories, leading investigations, editing copy and overseeing the news section of the Brixton Bugle newspaper. We are a hyperlocal newspaper, nominated in 2013 for Innovation of the Year at the British Journalism Awards.

You will:
Be a fully trained journalist with minimum 2 years experience
Have NCTJ or equivalent qualification; preferably have NCE qualification though not essential
Have InDesign or Quark Express skills
Have experience of writing for web and using social media
Have an understanding of the key news issues in London, from housing to benefits and regeneration
Be experienced in covering council stories
Be able to work with local communities and steer away from tabloid-style stories
Have ideas for how to build the Brixton Blog

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to be in control of their own career and work creatively to build up an exciting newspaper business. Hours can be flexible across the week.
