Tuesday September 1: HArt Work exhibition launch at Upstairs at the Ritzy. The gallery of images and text was created by a group of women who are homeless in Brixton. Over the last year Street Talk has run art sessions to engage the women creatively, enabling them to share stories about their lives, as well as to reflect on their identity and their relationship within their community. Until October 5, free.
Wednesday September 2: London Oktoberfest 2015: from September 2 to 5 Giant beers, schlager music and lederhosen will descend on Electric Brixton. Tickets £39-55.Â
Thursday September 3: Past Reflections at the Black Cultural Archives. Britain’s top scholars of Black History look at the African contribution at three pivotal moments in English history: Onyeka Nubia on Africans in Tudor England , Dr S.I. Martin on Africans in Georgian England and Robin Walker on Black culture of modern British society. 7 pm to 9 pm, £10.
Friday September 4: The River Effra’s vanishing act: Jon Newman from Lambeth Archives uncovers the sorry story of the River Effra, once a sparkling stream running the length of Lambeth but long since downgraded to underground storm relief sewer, as he maps its course from the high ground of Norwood through Herne Hill and Brixton to the Thames at Vauxhall. 7pm at Portico Gallery, 23a Knights Hill, West Norwood, SE27 0HS. Booking essential, email archives@lambeth.gov.uk or phone 020 7926 6076.
Saturday September 5: Screening of Vamos los Quemeros! Taking our impact home at The Ritzy cinema. A short documentary about Huracan FC London a Sunday league football team, who have raised over £25,000 for charity and helped young people with six education projects across four continents. Tickets are £15 and all proceeds go towards supporting football for education projects.Â
