    Monday 1 February: Why not start the month with a night of pop music at The Windmill? Pop Composition features short bursts of material from some of London’s most inventive acts – including Tom O.C Wilson Ensemble, Al Berkowitz, Melanie Pappenheim and Michael Woodman. 8pm. £4.

    Bored by music, frazzled by film? Try politics! Can Corbyn Survive? Red Flag South London Forum is an open discussion faciliated by Kady from Young Labour and Herne Hill Labour Party at the Vida Walsh Centre, 2B Saltoun Road SW2 1EP. 7.30pm. Free.

    Tuesday 2 : The Brixton Library book group has its monthly meeting. Each of the group provides participants with a copy of one of the books from its list. 7pm to 9pm.

    Wednesday 3: Hootanny’s live band karaoke invites punters to the stage to sin their favourite rock or pop hit with its live band Cornucopia. 9pm to 12pm. Free.

    This February, Omnibus, Clapham’s multi-arts venue, announces a special headline guest to mark its debut LGBT+ Microfest which also coincides with National LGBT+ History month.  Wilde Without the Boy, opens the Microfest on 3 February. A moving dramatisation of Oscar Wilde’s De Profundis, Wilde’s letter from his Reading jail cell to his lover, Lord Alfred Douglas. Performed by Olivier Award nominee Gerard Logan. 7.30pm, tickets £12.

    Thursday 4: Beat the winter blues and treat your little one to the big screen with Hopster Showtime: Snow and Ice. Hopster the learning and entertainment app, is showing special screenings of TV series Pingu, Rupert Bear, Wonderballs and 64 Zoo Lane at various Picturehouses. On at The Ritzy at 11am (and Tuesday 2 Feb). £3 kids, adults free.

    Friday 5: Check out the legendary Neville Staple – “the original rude boy” and veteran ska perfomer – at the Prince of Wales. 7pm. £15.

    The grounds of Dulwich Picture Gallery will transform into a world of light and fire this weekend to celebrate the opening of the major exhibition Nikolai Astrup: Painting Norway. Fire sculpture specialists Walk the Plank will transform the grounds after dusk into a live fire garden, visitors can enjoy access to the gallery’s permanent collection and there will be refreshments available. Saturday 6 too. 6.30pm to 9.30pm. Kids £5, adults £8. Exhibition runs until 15 May. £12.50, children and members free.

    Saturday 6: German electronic musician Paul Kalkbrenner will be performing his only London gig at the O2 Academy. Doors 8pm. Prices start at £23.10

    Pop Brixton and 7Suns present Mardi Gras Brixton. For an all day all night party Pop Brixton will be transformed into a mini New Orleans French Quarter with brass band parades, live art, live music, Louisiana food and drinks, street performers and more. All day. Free.

    On National Libraries Day, the Friends of Tate Library Brixton are promoting wellbeing through workshops in gardening, creativity and healthy lifestyles. 10am to 4pm. There will also be a David Bowie celebration with music and film in the evening.

    Sunday 7: If you can’t make Rio, head for Pop Brixton to celebrate Brazil’s Carnaval. A free day of entertainment and activities for all ages, featuring Brazilian food and drink, copoeira and samba classes, plus special performances from dancers, drummers, live musicians and DJs. Midday to 7pm. Free.
