Young Brixton musicians to play in Germany

Youthsayers

Youthsayers – the music project run by Brixton band Soothsayers – is taking a group of local 11-to-18-year-olds to perform at a ska, reggae and soul festival in Cologne, Germany.

Freedom Sounds runs from 20 to 21 April.

Members of Soothsayers went to Cologne in January to meet young German musicians from a school there to organise a three-day project with the Brixton young musicians. German readers and Google Translate users can find out more here.

Youthsayers, based at Raw Material in Robsart Street, play jazz, dub, reggae, Afrobeat and ska. Their website is being rebuilt, but you can find out more at their Facebook page.

Soothsayers’ latest single, Dis & Dat from a forthcoming album, was released in January and they will be appearing with special guest Dele Sosimi, who was musical Director for Fela Kuti’s Egypt 80, at Streatham’s Hideaway on 13 April.
