Pop-up 60-bike Santander cycle station for Brockwell Park

Santander cycle Brockwell Park

Transport for London will install a pop-up Santander cycle docking station in Brockwell Park this weekend (12-13 May).

About 60 bikes will be near the Herne Hill entrance, thanks to support from Lambeth council.

The pop-up is part of a TfL drive to encourage Londoners and visitors to discover the gems of the capital on foot or by bike instead of by car.

May is National Walking Month and TfL is funding more than 40 free guided walks around the capital this weekend. There is still time to book a place via walklondon.org.uk/. There are walks to suit all ages and abilities including a number of family-friendly ones.

TfL’s “walk, cycle, discover” campaign is designed to further encourage the growth in cycling and walking across the city by all ages and demographics.

TfL research shows an 8.8% year-on-year increase in the number of cycle trips made  in 2016.

These latest figures mean that, since 2000, London has seen a 154% increase in the number of journeys made by bike. On average, 730,000 trips are now made in the capital by bike per day.

TfL extended its permanent docking stations to Brixton earlier this year.

  1. Well timed that they are doing it this weekend as next weekend and the two afterwards there will be a massive metal barricade going up and HGV’s in the park. Although with the 20mph limit continually flouted it takes a brave person to cycle on the roads around.Herne Hill and Tulse Hill. Not family friendly by a long shot.
