Brixton residents have set up a petition to put pressure on the council and Greenwich Leisure Limited (GLL) to allow a boxing club to go ahead in the leisure centre.
A fiery debate with councillors at the screening of  ‘Uncle Steadman‘ last week at the Brixton Rec led filmmaker Stuart Everitt to set up a petition to get the space for a boxing club.
The team at the Afewee football club, including Steadman Scott and boxer AJ Carter, have been trying to get a boxing club set up for Brixton’s youngsters. In an interview with the Brixton Blog earlier this year, AJ Carter said: “There’s nothing actually for kids to come and explore the world of boxing. I think in terms of confidence and self-control, a lot of young kids would need that. I would help at the class and try to teach them what I know”.
There is a paper petition in the Rec itself with some 400 signatures already and an online petition here at change.org
